I started this project because of my original interest in the small town of Locke, California, which was established near the banks of the Sacramento River in the late 1800s. Locke and surrounding communities were originally home to migrant Chinese who worked on the Pacific Railway. Later, around the turn of the century, the same Locke residents helped build the levees that distribute water from the Sacramento River to nearby agricultural land. I shot all the images in this gallery within a half-mile of the Sacramento River.
